TROOP 307

The Role of Parents and Adults

While Troop 307 is Scout-led, meaning Youth-led, to achieve all the activities, there has to be lots of strong support from Parents and Adult leaders.  We are always welcoming new volunteers to help!

Troop 307 Committee
Troop 307 Committee handles all the administrative / business functions of running a Troop - from Troop-level fundraising, to supporting the Scoutmasters with camping logistics, to onboarding new Adult leaders and Scout families.
Troop 307 Committee meets monthly on the 4th Thursdays of the month at 7p.

Adult Leaders
Adult leaders are adults who provide leadership to the Scouts as assistant Scoutmasters, Committee members, Advancement Coordinator, or just as additional adults to participate in campouts from time to time.
All parents are eligible to become Adult leaders - you absolutely do not need any experience in Scouting to help!
To become an adult leader, you'll need to:
  1. Take Youth Protection Training
  2. Submit an adult application to the Alamo Area Council and pass the background check
  3. Take Committee Member Training (only required if seeking to fill a position)
1 and 2 are required to attend campouts.

Parental Involvement
All Sports and extra-curricular programs need some level of involvement from Parents.  The Scouts lead the program but they need lots of support.

As a parent, you will need to:
  1. Check in with your Scout regularly to offer support, encouragement, and motivation to help encourage them advance – this means achieving the next rank.
  2. Check in with your Scout on their merit badges – offer support, encouragement and motivation to completing them.
  3. Encourage your Scout to attend a campout every few months.  To advance, they MUST go camping.  Winter & summer camps are not enough to fulfill the requirements within the time they have.
